Justice-Oriented Churches

The complicity of many Evangelical church when it comes to racial injustice and the current nationalistic agenda being spread as gospel in North America (and beyond) has put race and justice to the forefront once again. With 1 in 3 American Evangelicals being a person of color what is happening in society is a glaring reminder that America and along with it, the American church have so much more to go in understanding race and how justice and how it is understood and practiced from the lenses of black and brown people. Pastoring in America has changed and become more difficult. In a multi-ethnic society, a pastor is expected to know the issues people in the church face even if it is a different experience than their own. In addition, learning how to advocate for them against systemic injustices so as to offer more than thoughts and prayers is becoming more and more of a necessity in today’s world. The church today needs to be one of liberation and imagination that advocates for the flourishing of all people. Help Dr. Rios find the churches across the country that are justice oriented and tell us about them for possible inclusion in a forthcoming book.
