"May I live like the lotus at ease in the muddy water.” – Unknown
“The lotus is the most beautiful flower, whose petals open one by one. But it will only grow in the mud. In order to grow and gain wisdom, first you must have the mud — the obstacles of life and its suffering. … The mud speaks of the common ground that humans share, no matter what our stations in life. … Whether we have it all or we have nothing, we are all faced with the same obstacles: sadness, loss, illness, dying and death. If we are to strive as human beings to gain more wisdom, more kindness and more compassion, we must have the intention to grow as a lotus and open each petal one by one.” – Goldie Hawn
I call this blog, "Like the Lotus," because I see the Lotus flower as a metaphor for my life and maybe even yours. you see, like the Lotus, we are all touched by the muddy waters of life and like the Lotus, we should all rise up every new day to add beauty to the world. The lotus flower is one of the most ancient and deepest symbols of our planet. The lotus flower grows in muddy water and rises above the surface to bloom with remarkable beauty. ... Untouched by the impurity, lotus symbolizes the purity of heart and mind. The lotus flower represents long life, health, honor.
I am a Latina Christian no longer fitting in the world around me yet seeking to thrive and add to what makes it beautiful, not what makes it ugly. I, like the lotus, want to remain untouched by the impurity (old mindsets, hate, nationalism, etc) around me. Why do I say I no longer fit? Because I grew up Evangelical and that label no longer represents who I seek to be. Because I believe in women in all roles in Christianity as an egalitarian but it seems to be that there are still many who believe a woman can only be in the kitchen not the White House, teaching children's church but not preaching in the pulpit. That's just not who I am or what I believe.
Being different, thinking different makes you stand out. The muddy waters are the opinions of people who think you're crazy, who want you to fail, who seek your demise. The muddy waters also represent the hard times that life can throw at you, unexpectedly. So this blog's purpose is to inform and inspire, touch and transform every reader into a person that rises above no matter what.
I hope that by sharing my thoughts, by being transparent and showing my humanity in the various areas of my life that you will see that like the lotus, you too can RISE UP and bloom beautifully no matter how deep or thick the mud around you.
